Experience Private Varnish
Long removed from regular Amtrak service, luxury dome cars allow for unparalleled views and can be added to any Amtrak charter train, clearance permitting.
Private varnish is a historic term used to describe luxurious privately owned railcars, commonly referred to as PVs. Staffed with dedicated teams of attendants, chefs, and mechanics, these private yachts of America’s rail system can be attached to the rear of most regular Amtrak services. Privately owned railcars make up the bulk of rolling stock available for hire on chartered Amtrak trains.
Most private railcars were constructed during the golden age of passenger rail with owners seeking to maintain world class standards for luxury and service. Sleeping cars, dining cars, lounge cars, dome cars, coach cars and observation cars are all available for charter. Additionally, many private railcars have been modified to act as self contained trains complete with sleeping compartments, a dining space, lounge areas, and a kitchen.
Railexco specializes in bringing multiple private railcars together to operate dedicated chartered trains. However, we are also experienced in handling client requests to manage individual railcar moves on the back of regularly scheduled Amtrak services.
